Cover up, Barbie!

In each of our Five Real Moms homes, we are trying to teach our girls -- and boys -- about proper dress, modesty, and respect for our bodies. So when my 2 year old got Barbies for Christmas, she was so excited to play, but also oh so eager to undress her and change the clothes.

If it's been a while since you've seen an undressed Barbie, well, it's not something I want my little boys to see.

So, my advice to you? Don't be afraid to modify your Barbie doll with a Sharpie permanent marker! Behold, our Barbie's permanent swimsuit:

Now that I think of it, Ken could probably use some swim trunks as well.

About Kerri

Ahh…see that smile on my face? That’s a genuine smile. I love my family. I love the 4th of July. I love the beach. I love ice-cream. And the day this picture was taken, I was getting the combination of it all. Ahhh…that’s a real smile!

This is a fantastic solution. However, you may find, as did Janae, that after little sweaty hands get ahold of those dolls, the “permanent” marker starts to smear and smudge, making your Barbie look like she’s been a victim of a crime. Instead of permanent marker, try nail polish. Not only can it be shimmery and shiny, it can also come in lots of colors (like the markers) so you can personalize her “swimsuit”. Little girls can have fun decorating the suit. And the best part is, it doesn’t smear so your doll looks beautiful all the time.

Or, you could also do what we do…hot glue the clothes to the doll’s body so no one can take them off!
